What Host?

There are many different types of hosting packages out there to choose from and the package that is right for your needs will be totally different from someone else’s. Really it all boils down to the type of site that you are looking to host. If youre looking to host a relatively small site then you can go with one of the basic packages as this will more than meet your needs.
A recent client contacted us about their hosting needs for a reptile drop ship related website and they started off by saying that they did not want to spend to much each month on hosting costs. Now because this site is going to be a reptile related product sales website it will have many different reptile product pages and lots of reptile images to go with them so straight away they need to be looking at a hosting package with a lot of disk space. Then due to the fact that all the reptile products will be put into a number of different databases they also need to look at a hosting package that will include multiple my sql databases. Due to the above they are already looking at needing one of the business related packages and this then becomes more expensive. They then told me about the level of reptile related traffic that they were expecting to get to their reptile pet supplies website and with the figures that they gave me the only real and reliable option would be a dedicated server package as with such a high volume of reptile related traffic they would need a very large amount of bandwidth.

So you really need to know what your aim is with your website and roughly what will be the size of the site and also what your expected traffic levels are. Most hosting providers will offer an upgrade option where you can start with a basic package and then upgrade to a better package when you need to do so. But in the case of the reptile website, it was going to be such a large reptile pet supplies website from the outset that it would have been too large to use any of the cheaper packages and due to the nature of the site, i.e. a reptile based product site, you really need a fast server that has almost no down time for you reptile customers to experience a smooth service. The last thing you need when you’re in the middle of buying some accessories for your pet reptile is for the hosting to go down or even just really slow as this will surely not look good in the eyes of your customers.
